Job Description

Senior Claims Adjuster, General Liability – Baltimore, MD

The Senior Claims Adjuster is in charge of managing a full desk of large, Commercial General Liability claims. This position is responsible for the prompt and efficient examination, investigation and settlement of claims through effective research, negotiation and interaction with all parties involved in the claims process.

Responsibilities:

  • Compile relevant General Liability claims information and details concerning claims
  • Receives claim, confirms policy coverage and acknowledgment of the claim
  • Establishes reserves and authorizes payments within reserving authority limits
  • Develops and manages well-documented action plans to reduce the overall cost of the claim
  • Manages litigation of claim as it applies
  • Reports claim to the excess carrier when applicable
  • Communicates claim status with the customer and claimant
  • Adheres to client and carrier guidelines and participates in claims review as needed
  • Develops and maintains professional customer relationships
  • Complies with rules and regulations of the applicable state
  • Additional projects and duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • 5 years + handling General Liability claims (specifically slips & falls in a retail setting)
  • Four year college degree in a related field is preferred
  • Current post-designated training completed and current
  • Demonstrated ability to manage relationships in a fast paced environment, while demonstrating persistence along with problem solving and decision making skills to work through a variety of challenging situations
  • Solid analytical abilities to review, exercise judgment and evaluate claims in order to make sound decisions
  • Ability to respond to requests effectively and efficiently
  • Strong knowledge of claim procedures, policies, technology, state laws and regulations
  • Proficient in communicating effectively and clearly, both orally and in writing
  • Capable of carrying out detailed written or verbal instructions
  • Ability to work independently with self-initiative
  • Excellent time management skills, organizational skills and ability to prioritize issues and tasks and handle large volumes of work in a short period of time
  • Competent in operation of computer equipment and applications
