Job Description

Position Title:               Fitter/Welder

Department:                 Manufacturing

Reports To:                  Production Supervisor

Summary for Fitter/Welder

            Proficient in fitting and welding of fabricated products according to blueprints and knowledge of welding characteristics of metal. Materials include low carbon steel, stainless steel, and other commonly used alloys.

Essential Functions Fitter/Welder

  1. Sucessfully complete initial and on-going job training programs in work functions, lean manufacturing and other topics as presented by the company.
  2. Maintain compliance to Engineering Documentation Notes above the minimum threshold established, and from time to time revised, by the company for the position.
  3. Burning, fitting, welding, and grinding of product assemblies.
  4. Lay out, position, align, and fit components together
  5. Set up equipment and weld parts.
  6. Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
  7. Adherence to all plant and safety regulations.
  8. Meet production and quality standards.
  9. Maintain a clean and neat work area.

Minimum Requirements Fitter/Welder

  1. Ability to follow directions and work from verbal instructions and simple blueprints.
  2. Dependable - have prompt and good attendance.
  3. Have a high degree of initiative.
  4. Ability to adjust, operate, and maintain all types of standard welding shop equipment.
  5.  Operational knowledge of hand tools (Grinders, Chippers, etc.).
  6.  Must be qualified in Carbon: GMAW, SMAW & FCAW processes in the 3-G position.
  7.  Has at least 1 year of experience with our products or similar products.
  8.  Trained on Weld Acceptance Criteria.
  9.  Demonstrated proficiency with welding GMAW, SMAW & FCAW processes in 3-G.
  10.  Basic knowledge of fitting from work instructions with supervision.
  11.  Has successfully completed guided instruction through the Fitter /Welder Training Curriculum.
  12.  Pass entry level fit test.
  13.  Ability to train in the fitting and tack-welding of components.
  14.  Welds must meet all PMC established code requirements, and to qualify for locally imposed codes.

Physical demands Fitter/Welder

This position will require lifting (not more than 50 pounds), bending, walking, standing and sitting. 

Personal protective equipment: 

This will require wearing all applicable safety equipment, i.e.: safety glasses, hard hats, gloves and other as required.

Authority for Fitter/Welder

Within the scope of the essential functions of this position, the employee is expected to ensure that quality and safety standards are maintained and that assigned tasks are performed in an efficient and productive manner.


Work will be performed but not limited to a shop environment. Could be some outside work at times.  Hot and cold temperatures dependent on the time of the year.

Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.
